Submit
Action, Spectacle and welcomes submissions via Submittable year-round, in English and previously unpublished. Simultaneous and unsolicited submissions are encouraged.
Though our residencies are on hiatus, we continue to run the magazine and, full-length, and chapbook contests.
We employ the broadest possible aesthetic when we read. We encourage submissions of work that is more traditional or explicitly experimental, linear or non-linear, concrete or abstract, narrative or gestural, concerned with the natural world, the self, urban spaces, history, &c.
We will publish 2 issues online each year. Each issue will feature work chosen by Action, Spectacle's editors, and a rotation of several guest editors per issue.
Guest editors invite work from up to five creators to be published in the issue, but do not read slush or have administrative duties. Guest editors have included included Rick Moody, Vu Tran, CA Conrad, Rae Armantrout, Dana Levin, Phillip Lopate, Carl Phillips, Kimiko Hahn, Laura Sims, Cindy Arrieu-King, Bianca Stone, Juliana Spahr, D.A. Powell, Matthea Harvey, Amy Lawless, Simone Muench, Joshua Clover, Jason Koo, and others.
We read general submissions year round. We publish poetry, flash fiction, short fiction, comics, interviews, essays, reviews, as well as some static graphic images. Hybrid and collaborative work, as well as translations are welcome and should be accompanied by a copy of the original text, whenever possible.
All text submissions should be sent as ONE Word document, and all comics and images should be sent as JPEG 300 dpi. We cannot publish TIF or PDF files.
By submitting, you guarantee you hold the rights to the work, and you grant Action, Spectacle the rights to publish the submitted work with first serial rights (FNASR). After publication, rights revert to the author. Original, previously unpublished work only. All pieces must be submitted through Submittable.
